story:
The plot of the film seems cliched – a poor teenager from an oppressed caste falls in love with a girl from an influential caste, and the relationship is opposed. However, by defining what ‘manhood’ is, Open different from movies like Sairat and Kadhali In which there was only one theme of caste which was a hindrance in a relationship.
Open It stars newcomers Panja Vaishnav Tej and Kriti Shetty in lead roles, with Vijay Sethupathi as the protagonist. While Vaishnav struggles in his role, Kriti impresses with her performance. To put it mildly, Vijay Sethupathi is dangerous. As a casteist feudatory, Vijay scares us whenever he appears on screen. The voiceover by Ravi Shankar adds strength to his role. Though the dubbing doesn’t sync properly, but as the movie progresses, it doesn’t seem to be a problem.
